Waking up frequently during the night will almost certainly leave you feeling tired the next day – as we sleep, various processes are performed by our bodies that help give us energy we need for when we are awake; so by disturbing these processes, you will not have enough energy and will feel tired. You may not even notice that you’re waking up so often during the night, but if you think you are getting enough sleep yet you still feel tired during the day then there is potentially a sign that the quality of your sleep is not good enough. Quality of sleep is just as important as duration, so it is important to do what we can to help ourselves to sleep better. There are plenty of reasons why you might wake up during the night, stress that might be affecting you, sleeping disorders such as sleep apnoea, a poor lifestyle or diet, but one of the main reasons for why many people find themselves waking up so frequently during the night is simple fact that their mattress is not comfortable enough.
Uncomfortable mattresses, rather than providing you with comfort whilst you sleep, can actually cause you to suffer from various aches and pains. You may notice these aches and pains during the day, as well as at night; however, at night they can be strong enough to wake you up. Lumpy mattresses that have become misshapen in some way are quite obviously going to be uncomfortable; however, even a mattress that may appear comfortable, particularly the first time that you use it, can still cause aches and pains. Quite often, the level of support the mattress may give you is not adequate enough to prevent these aches and pains. Unfortunately, many traditional mattresses simply cannot take into consideration the contours of our bodies, this results in an uneven level of support causing pressure points throughout our body, generally where the joint are, which causes these aches and pains. To compensate, our bodies can then become misaligned affecting how straight the spine is kept as we sleep, a bit like how a table might bow in the middle as it gets old, which only makes things worse. If your body is uncomfortable then it causes you to wake up and can result in you feeling really tired the next day.
Many experts recommend using a memory foam mattress as the material in these mattresses is able to prevent these aches and pains from occurring; in fact, they quite often soothe any aches and pains that you may have rather than causing them. Without these aches and pains waking you up you will find that you sleep better, wake up feeling more refreshed, have more energy during the day and won’t be as grumpy. So you (and those around you) will end up feeling much better and life will become a lot easier. There may be other causes that are waking you up but making yourself as comfortable as possible is very important to ensure that you do sleep well.
